The Towers, accompanied by Dr. John Gastright, Senior Medical Director at HCP, IPA and Priority Care Case Manager, Patrice Theobald, RN, went to Washington DC to meet personally with members of Congress letting them know that they like their current level of care, it works well for them and has made a critical difference in the quality of their lives.

In recognition of their outstanding efforts, the honors for the Towers states, "Whereas the Borough of Queens is built on a foundation of outstanding residents who, working together, have forged a wonderful community based on hard work and mutual respect and secured through the blessing of our great nation." Queens Borough President Helen Marshall acknowledged, "... in Sheila and Arthur Tower we have outstanding citizens who are worthy of the esteem of the community, the Borough and the City of New York"

The Towers, Dr. Gastright and Theobald met with Congressman Gary Ackerman, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy and senior level staff members of Senator Kristen Gillibrand, expressing a clear, direct message to protect Medicare and to discuss their successful experiences in accountable managed care from HCP, IPA.

"I'm a breast cancer survivor," said 74-year-old Sheila Tower. "And my care from HCP, IPA has made it so much easier to cope with my desire to beat and overcome this disease. I'm alive because of this and I wanted my legislators to know first hand, this is not a place to make any cost cuts."

Her husband, 84-year-old Arthur Tower who suffers from Parkinson's disease, agrees: "We are both enrolled in Medicare Advantage and our care is preventative in that we are able to discuss our medical concerns and diagnosis before they get to the critical stage, saving us time and money, adding to the quality of our lives. We have peace of mind and less stress because we know we can reach out to HCP, IPA 24/7 and if necessary, they will send a nurse or doctor to our home."

"I'm proud Sheila and Arthur Tower have been recognized by our community leaders, as they exemplify dedication to outstanding health care and wellness issues for all seniors, " said Dr. Richard Merkin, CEO of HCP, IPA. "Taking their message directly to Members of Congress in Washington is critical and we are pleased their efforts are acknowledged."

"We value the hard work Sheila and Arthur Tower have contributed to bettering health care for seniors," said Kathy Nix, EVP of HCP, IPA. "They represent our best efforts in community outreach."
